When tuning the engine, the exhaust manifold should be replaced at the outset, since the exhaust gases extruded from the cylinder are now sent to the exhaust manifold, which is part of the engine body, then routed to the first section of the exhaust pipe and then to the silencer, or several serially located silencers and then to the exhaust pipe outlet.
