Brief summary & key benefits

Connectors & Wiring gives you the parts to build OEM-grade looms: Deutsch DT/DTM/DTP, Bosch/Delphi/AMP styles, pin-only kits, seals, boots and quality automotive wire. Correctly matched housings, terminals and seals provide durable IP protection, while proper crimping ensures low resistance and reliability under heat and vibration.

Technical Basics

Families: DTM (signal/light duty, 16–22 AWG), DT (general purpose, 13–16 AWG), DTP (high current, 10–12 AWG). Bosch EV1/EV6, Delphi and AMP/Tyco formats are common for injectors, sensors and DBW throttles. Use the correct wire seals and rear boots to keep water, dust and oil out; seal size must match the cable OD.

Terminals: tin-plated copper alloy male/female pins with defined wire ranges. A quality crimp has two bites—conductor and insulation. Use the specified die profile; over- or under-crimping causes heat and intermittent faults. Always perform a light pull test.

Wire: TXL/GXL PVC lines for general use, high-temperature Tefzel (ETFE) for harsh areas. Size by current, run length and acceptable voltage drop. Employ shielded twisted pairs for crank/cam and lambda signals, and return a separate sensor ground where practical.

Harness management: sleeve with heat-resistant braid, secure with P-clips and strain-relieve connectors. Use grommets on bulkhead pass-throughs and create a drip loop to prevent water ingress.

Selection Criteria

Current & gauge: pick the connector family and terminal wire range to match actual AWG/mm². Fans/pumps → DTP; sensors → DTM; mixed circuits → DT.

Environment: engine bay/off-road demands sealed housings and appropriate IP rating; prefer Tefzel with heat shielding near exhausts. Choose seal sizes to match jacket OD for true ingress protection.

Serviceability: keep pin-only kits for common types; include wedge-locks (TPA) and secondary locks. Verify keying and latch style on Bosch/Delphi/AMP shells to avoid mis-mating.

Compatibility: many OE connectors look alike but use different keyways; confirm series and cavity count. For injectors/DBW, check latch direction and indexing marks.

Installation & Maintenance

Plan the loom topology, branches and grounds. Crimp with calibrated tools using the correct die; do not solder in place of a structural crimp. Degrease, insert pins fully and lock with the wedge-lock. Leave a service loop for moving assemblies and secure runs to prevent chafe. Seal bulkhead pass-throughs with heatshrink boots. During service, check mounts, abrasion points and seals; use contact cleaner only when necessary and material-safe.

FAQ

Which Deutsch family should I use?
DTM for signals, DT for general circuits, DTP for high-current consumers.

Why is the pin loose?
Missing/damaged wedge-lock or incorrect crimp length on insulation support; re-crimp with the specified die and re-seat.

Can I solder instead of crimp?
Not recommended in motorsport—solder can work-harden and crack. Use proper crimps with the right tooling.

What wire for sensors?
Shielded twisted pair; for high heat choose Tefzel (ETFE). Size power feeds to the expected current and voltage drop.

How do I ensure waterproofing?
Correct seal size, intact housing gaskets, rear boots and locked wedge-locks; also seal the pass-throughs appropriately.
