Carbon Films
Our carbon films are carbon-look self-adhesive wraps for interior and small exterior parts. The PVC base with air-release adhesive enables bubble-free application, while the weave pattern provides a realistic carbon fibre effect. Choose your size and finish (matte/gloss), and apply on a clean, degreased surface for long-lasting results.
Brief Summary & Key Benefits
Carbon films offer a fast, reversible styling upgrade for interior trims and small exterior parts. The realistic carbon weave look pairs with a protective, air-release adhesive that allows repositioning and bubble-free installs. Benefits include low weight, flexible conformability and the option to return to stock without damaging OEM surfaces.
Technical Basics
Films are produced from cast or calendered PVC. Cast films excel on complex curves and long-term stability; calendered variants are cost-effective for flatter areas. Total thickness is typically 120–180 μm. Micro-channel acrylic adhesive vents air toward the edges, while the printed or embossed 2×2 twill pattern delivers depth. Ideal working temperatures are 15–30 °C; gentle heat helps conform around edges without overstretching the pattern.
Durability depends on preparation and edge sealing. Indoors, a well-installed film lasts for years; outdoors, UV and heat cycles can shorten life, so perimeter primer is recommended on exposed edges. Films resist water and mild detergents but avoid abrasive cleaners.
Selection Criteria
Application: centre consoles, fascia trims, vent surrounds and mirror caps. For deep recesses or tight negative curves, prefer cast films. Choose matte for a subtle motorsport vibe, gloss for show finish, or satin for balance.
Colour & pattern: classic 2×2 twill black fits most cabins; graphite/anthracite tones are available for softer contrast. Measure parts carefully and add 20–30 mm overlap per side for wrapping and tension relief.
Environment: exterior pieces face UV and chemicals from washing; if high durability is required, consider compatible clear-coat or ceramic top-coats tested for films.
Installation & Maintenance
Prep the surface: clean and degrease with IPA; repair flaky paint. Work at 15–25 °C in a dust-free area. Apply from the centre outward using a felt squeegee; add light heat to settle edges and recesses. Wrap 10–20 mm around the backside and seal with edge-sealer where exposed. After install, avoid washing or strong heat for 24 hours.
Care: wash with neutral cleaners and a microfibre cloth. Skip abrasive polishes; glossy finishes may benefit from a film-safe sealant. For removal, warm the panel, peel steadily and clean residues with adhesive remover.
FAQ
Q: Are they suitable for exterior use?
A: Yes, but lifespan depends on UV and heat. Good edge sealing and regular care extend durability.
Q: Do I need a heat gun?
A: Not for flat parts; for tight curves, controlled heat aids conforming without overstretching.
Q: How to avoid bubbles?
A: The air-release adhesive helps; squeegee from the centre and keep the surface dust-free.
Q: Will it stick to textured plastics?
A: Lightly scuff and degrease first; very coarse textures reduce long-term adhesion.
Q: Does removal leave marks?
A: Usually no; soften the adhesive with warmth and clean any residue with citrus-based remover.
