Brief summary & key benefits
Plugs & Sockets provide OEM-grade interfaces between the ECU, sensors and actuators. With multiple families (Deutsch, Bosch, AMP/Delphi, Superseal) you can cover light-signal duties through to high-current connections. Pre-wired pigtails, CAN/OBD-II breakouts and battery leads speed installation, while correct seals and boots ensure long-term IP protection.
Technical Basics
Families & keying: Deutsch DT/DTM/DTP are motorsport staples; Bosch, AMP/Delphi and Superseal shells are common on OE sensors, injectors and DBW throttles. Series, cavity count and keying must match; secondary locks (TPA/wedge-lock) secure terminals against vibration.
Terminals & crimping: tin-plated copper alloy male/female pins are rated for defined wire ranges. A proper crimp has conductor and insulation bites using the specified die. Over/under-crimping leads to heat and intermittent faults—always perform a pull test.
Wiring & accessories: pre-made pigtails, ECU-specific plugs, CAN/OBD-II leads and battery cables are available. Match seal size to jacket OD and use rear boots for true ingress protection.
Selection Criteria
Compatibility: verify series, pinout, keyway and latch direction—many OE shells look similar but are not interchangeable.
Current & gauge: choose DTP for high loads, DTM for signals and DT for general circuits; ensure the terminal’s wire range fits the actual AWG/mm².
Environment: engine-bay/off-road → sealed housings and proper IP rating; use heat shielding and Tefzel wire near exhausts. Seal bulkhead pass-throughs appropriately.
Serviceability: keep pin-only kits and spare wedge-locks for field repairs; they drastically reduce downtime.
Installation & Maintenance
Crimp with calibrated tools and the correct die; do not solder in place of a structural crimp. Degrease, insert terminals fully and engage the wedge-lock. Route looms with heat-resistant sleeving, secure with P-clips and provide service loops for moving assemblies. For CAN/OBD-II, verify node IDs and termination (120 Ω) and keep T-branches short. During service, check seals, latches and abrasion points and use compatible contact cleaners only when required.
FAQ
Which family should I choose?
DTM for signals, DT for general use, DTP for high current. Bosch/Delphi/AMP for OE-style sensors.
Why is the pin loose?
Missing/damaged wedge-lock or incorrect insulation support length—re-crimp and re-seat.
Can I solder instead of crimp?
Not recommended; solder can work-harden and crack under vibration. Use the specified crimp tool.
How do I achieve waterproofing?
Correct seal size, intact housing gasket, rear boots and sealed bulkhead pass-throughs.
